You will love your new firepit/fireplace

This page is everything you need to know about Firepits and Fireplaces. Click to skip to Pricing Information below, or for a Video Tour of this fireplace at the right.

You may notice that almost all our "firepits" are actually raised firepits. This is for several reasons:

  • Safety-- We think a big hole in the middle of your patio is dangerous, with kids and guests moving around in the dark.

  • Heat Access-- The lower the logs, the lower the embers, and the further away from you the heat is. Raising the firepit raises the heat source closer to your level.

  • Cleaning-- It's so much easier to clean the ash out of a raised firepit, since you don't have to crawl around on your knees.

  • Flexibility-- A raised firepit is on top of the patio surface. In the future, you could remove the firepit if you wanted to. A buried firepit is totally permanent.

Don't take this to mean that we can't make you a sunken firepit if you want one--- we certainly can! Just be advised that they cost more because of the labor involved in excavation, building the pit, and building the whole patio around it. It's a more involved process, but certainly doable.

NATURAL STONE FIREPITS

An in-between option between a sunken firepit and a raised one is to have us make you one out of natural stone. Natural stone firepits are built at the height of the patio surface.

Typically we lay the entire patio first, then cut out the pavers where the firepit will be. We hand-select each stone for the firepit at our supplier's yard. Then we hand-place each stone to get the tightest, most aesthetic fit possible.

Natural stone firepits have the traditional "fire ring" look. There is no better or worse as far as firepit material. You should choose the one you like best. You're going to be the one sitting around it making marshmallows!

GAS FIREPITS

How about this for convenience? Flip a switch, and you have an instant fire. No wood to cut, no ash to clean, no hot embers to worry about when you want to go to bed.

For gas firepits, first a plumber installs the gas line out to where the firepit will be. We can organize this part for you. Then we build the patio around the gas line, and build the block firepit over the line.

Lastly, the plumber returns to install the gas firepit insert. These come in many styles and sizes. They keep making more every year. If you don't see one you like here, don't worry. There are LOTS of options out there, and we can help you find the right one.

Below are some photos showing the process of making a gas firepit.

PRICING/ESTIMATES

We'd love it if you'd contact us for a free estimate, using the phone number or email link at the bottom of this page. We can give you a rough idea of price over the phone, if you like, or refer to these general price guidelines. This pricing assumes the firepit is one part of a landscape project we are installing:

  • BLOCK FIREPIT: $500-1,000. Depends on block type, size, and whether it receives a cap row

  • STONE FIREPIT: $350-1,000. Depends on stone type and size.

  • GAS FIREPIT: Expect $2,000+. It costs $600-1,500 to run the gas line, depending how far the firepit will be from your gas source. Then you have the block firepit, and a gas insert of your choice.

  • RAISED FIREPLACE: Start at about $1750.

You should also be sure to visit the Patio Information page to get an idea of how much a patio around your firepit costs.

FINAL MESSAGE

We can work with big or small budgets to come up with a great firepit space for you. We can design and install just the patio, or we can do your entire property. Look around our website, particularly the Recent Projects page or the Photo Gallery to see all the different things we can do.

We love this work, and we're excited to share it with you! Enjoy a few more photos below.
