RECENT PROJECTS 2006 Completed November 28, 2006: We got this project finished one day before it got really cold. So we had time to pack away the equipment for winter before we froze ourselves too badly. (For once!) We usually work until about December 10th, but this year we got off easy. This is new construction near Lake Minnetonka. In front we did a patterned bluestone entryway, which has a radient heat system to melt the snow in the winter. In back we did over 4,000 square feet of paver terraces, and 500 s.f. of stoop veneering and sidewalks. The paver is Belgard's Mega Bergerac in Bluestone color--- they are awesome! (Next spring we'll be doing the driveway in the same stuff.)
Completed October, 2006: Full-yard renovation, including paver driveway, patios, and planter boxes around a hot tub. You can see the hardscape elements, but being so late in the fall the plants are going dormant and don't look like much. Next year I'll get more photos with the plants blooming.
Completed August 25, 2006: Complete renovation of a slopy Southwest Minneapolis back yard. We flattened the area behind the playset and added a boulder wall, with four boulder steps. Those steps are made from boulders sawn into 6" high pieces--- amazing! We removed all the old messy landscape rock from the upper area, added mulch, steppers, plantings, and the timbered pea-gravel area around the playset. Also added some accent boulders throughout.
Completed August 17, 2006: This property had an existing, sloped garden area facing the rear of the house. The lawn sloped up to where the garden area started, making it very difficult to navigate for the client's wheelchair. He wanted to be able to get right up to his plants without feeling like he was about to tip over. The new wall and sidewalk accomplished these goals perfectly! Before/Afters
Completed August 2, 2006: This property has a big hill in the back, which ate up a lot of usable yard. We cut into the hill and made a 5' high boulder wall (using giant field boulders.) We curved the wall on the right end to accommodate a 20-foot diameter circle patio (Anchor Kingston Circle in color Fieldstone), two 12-foot sitting walls (Anchor Highland in color Sand), and a trap boulder firepit (trap boulders.) Also added lots of mulch and a few trees. Finally they have the big flat yard they want, and also a great firepit area for guests! Before/Midway/After
Completed July 25, 2006: Added a slightly raised patio (Anchor Kingston Circle in color Fieldstone) with sitting wall (Anchor Highland in color Sand.) This is next to their existing deck.
Before/After
Completed July 20, 2006: Raised patio (Anchor Holland in color Pipestone, herringbone layout), with firepit and sitting wall. This is next to their large deck... the patio gives them some more space for guests to hang out by the firepit.
Completed July 12, 2006: Replaced old timber/paver steps with 4' granite steps. Replaced upper concrete slab and masonry planter boxes with boulders, paver sidewalk and sitting area, veneered the stoop with pavers, and added a really nice pondless waterfall. Imagine the difference now when people approach the front of this house--- awesome! This house now makes a tremendous first impression. (On a side note, the statistics on how landscaping affects property value are pretty impressive. Check out this article from Smart Money magazine to learn more. I think this project is a great example of how landscaping can create an overall positive or negative impression of an entire house before people even get inside. Picture this home through the eyes of a potential buyer as you look at the before and after pictures.) Before:

Completed June 29, 2006: Red clay paver patios next to pool. Colonial Bluestone wall with daylilies in front. Plantings, mulch. Steps and sidewalk leading to upper patio area by house.
Completed mid-June: Front flagstone sidewalk. Smooth Fondulac irregular steppers.
June 24, 2006: We revisited a Japanese Garden installation from last fall, which we installed with nationally admired designer David Slawson. We worked with him for three days. It's a very different process and result from what we normally do! It's meant resemble a beach, as viewed from the ocean. You must imagine that instead of 3-foot boulders, those are 100-foot cliffs, the grey rock is water, and the lighter rock is the beaches. There's a little cove with bridge over it on the right, where the giant highway (or, erm, the sidewalk) crosses. BEFORE

Completed June 24, 2006: Minneapolis backyard patio, stoop, and sidewalk replacement. Anchor Kingston pavers in color Fieldstone. Stoop is Anchor step units in Umber, with Bullnose pavers in Fieldstone. We stripped the old sod, regraded, and resodded as well. Imagine the difference this project makes to the client's enjoyment of the property, and to its future resale value. BEFORE
