You will love your new patio space

Thanks for clicking! Patios are one of our specialties at Axel Landscapes. We won our first Hedberg Award in 2000 for a paver patio in Chanhassen. We also won our first MNLA award in 2004 for a patio in Eden Prairie (pictured at the right.) Pricing Info is further below. We just won a 2007 MNLA award for a residential patio/driveway project (pictured below.)

We work with concrete pavers, clay pavers, and natural stone. (By the way, "Paver" is the industry term for "Brick".) Pavers come in all different shapes and colors, as does natural stone. We'll help you choose which material and color will most suit your needs and budget. We'll also design the shape of the patio with the same stylish sensibilities that have won us six awards!

DO THEY LAST?

We install at least 6" of compacted base material underneath each of our patios, well over the recommended minimum of 4". This ensures that your patio will last many, many years. We also warranty our patios for two full years.

It is extremely rare for any portion of our patios to settle. We have patios that have been in the field for ten years which look just as good today as the day we put them in. But in the rare case where something does settle, it will happen during the first winter. We want you to feel completely secure in your investment, so we give you that extra year of warranty just to be safe.

We're so good at patios, Hedberg Landscape Supply in Plymouth had us install their entire paver display area in 2005.

All our heavy equipment is on tracks, instead of tires, which minimizes damage to your lawn. Most of the time, we can get in and out without disrupting much of your existing landscape. Obviously, if you have a new construction home, that makes it even easier.

PRICING/ESTIMATES

We'd love it if you'd contact us for a free estimate, using the phone number or email link at the bottom of this page. Yes, even though we've been doing this for 10 years, we still give free estimates. We can give you a rough idea of price over the phone, if you like, or you can use the following very general price guidelines:

Paver Patios: No matter what size of patio or what paver you choose, it's unlikely you'll pay less than $12/square foot or more than $18/square foot. Most patios fall somewhere in the middle.

Natural Stone: (Bluestone, limestone, etc.) No matter which stone or layout, it's unlikely you'd pay less than $21/square foot or more than $34/square foot. Natural stone patios are harder to generalize because there are so many different stones and layouts.

COMPARISON TO POURED CONCRETE

Nowadays, concrete and stamped concrete cost about the same as paver patios. This is mainly because the cost of concrete itself and delivery (from gas prices) have gone up so much in the last 5 years. It used to be you could get a concrete slab for $6/s.f. Not anymore. According to the Star/Tribune and our research (getting bids from concrete companies), regular concrete is now $10-14/s.f., and stamped concrete goes from $14-20/s.f. Stamped concrete almost always costs more than the same space made from pavers. <<Source info>>

Except for rare cases, we do not do install poured concrete, nor do we recommend it. Concrete and stamped concrete have no compacted base material under them, leaving them exposed to the freeze/thaw cycle, which causes cracking. ALL concrete cracks after a few years. If you doubt me, go outside right now and look at some concrete. The reason they put cut lines in concrete isn't for decoration-- it's so the cracks form there first. But eventually they form everywhere. Concrete is inflexible, therefore it cracks.

Once it does, there is no way to patch or fix it except tear it all out and start over. Our patios all have 6" of compacted base material, which creates a solid, yet flexible base so the patio doesn't shift. But even if it did move, pavers or stones could always be removed, more base material added, and the pavers or stones replaced. Our patios can last a lifetime with minimal maintenance... concrete can not.

FINAL MESSAGE

We can work with big or small budgets to come up with a great patio space for you. We can design and install just the patio, or we can do your entire property. Look around our website, particularly the Recent Projects page or the Photo Gallery to see all the different things we can do. You may also like the Firepits page, because firepits often go with patios.

We love this work, and we're excited to share it with you! Enjoy a few more photos below.
